airlineThis is a special edition of TCM's greatest ever.  This time, I will be writing about the WORST company in the history of air transportation.

There are plenty of bad airlines, but which is the greatest of all those horrifically bad airlines?  Several factors play into this decision:  reliability, flexibility, price, customer service, food quality, movie choice, seat comfortability, and arguably the most important of all, stewardess attractiveness.

Air travel is great.  It’s super fast, the airline provides snacks, beverages, pillows, blankets, and even a movie if your flight is lengthy.  Travel from Los Angeles to St. Louis is a lot easier on plane than in a car or on a bike.  The air transportation industry follows the monopolistic competition model, which for all you non-business majors means that there are a relativity small number of firms to choose from.  Which is the airline that you should absolutely not choose to transport you around the world?  Well, TCM crowns Southwest Airlines as the world’s worst airline, and advises you to never, ever, EVER, book a flight with them.  Read ahead to find out why.

Christmas time is a busy month for companies like American Airlines, Northwest, and Continental.  However, some organizations handle the holiday rush much better than others.  Southwest is absolutely incapable of dealing with any kind of problem.  From my experience, their flights are almost always delayed.  This problem is compounded with the fact that they rarely fly nonstop flights across the country, so you frequently have to endure a layover.  The layover often turns into another opportunity for Southwest to hit you with an extra delay stemming from wild goats sleeping in the runway or some other equally feasible cause.  Adding the enjoyablility of Southwest delays are the people who work behind the counters.  I swear to god, I have no idea where Southwest hires these people.  The customer service personnel at Southwest are so clueless, so dumb, so arrogant, and so unhelpful, that they might as well not have anybody at all.  One particular Southwest employee behind the counter told me, quite matter-of-factly, that “All flights to St. Louis go through Las Vegas.  All of them.”  Sure dude, I’m sure they all do, every single one.   Clearly everybody who has ever flown to St. Louis from anywhere in the world has stopped in Vegas.  Dumbass.  Southwest might have No-Hidden-Fee-Zones, but I think they should also have Unhelpful-DoucheBag-Zones where all their employees stand.

Anyway, Southwest might have cheaper flights, but do yourself a favor and book with American or Northwest.  Spend some extra cash and get where you are going on time without any added frustration.
