Well the NHL has their new season well underway … Who knew? The way I found out the NHL had kicked off their pre-season, was when a friend texted me in August saying, “Hey do you know what innings the Cardinals game is in?  I was just at the Blues game and might head over there.”

First off, I would like to reiterate that I received this text message in August.  Yes, it was still 90 degrees outside when the Blues kicked off their season.  This is just one of the many reasons that I hate the NHL.

Honestly, the sport is played on ice.  So why the hell does the season start in August and end in June?  It’s summer time in June!  You have to be either stupid, or Canadian (or both) to go watch the NHL in August or June.  There’s just no point.

I almost hate the NHL playoffs more than I hate the Missouri High School Football Playoffs, or the BCS.  With both of those at least you have a short concise playoff with the most of the best teams.  But in the NHL it seems like EVERY SINGLE TEAM, except the absolute worst team gets in.  And on top of that every series is a seven game series.

It is impossible to stay interested in a playoff that takes like half as long as the regular season … Or it feels like it at least.  The St.Louis Blues made the playoffs 24 consecutive years.  Is that really that big of an accomplishment when over half the teams in the conference get into the playoffs?  It’s not.

Sure, the fights in hockey are great.  But if you’re going to watch it just for that, you might as well get HBO and order Canadian boxing off pay-per-view.  Sometimes it is impossible to tell what the players are fighting over.  Did one of them check the other too hard?  I’ve been to a few hockey games before, and it seems to me they almost just fight because they can.  It’s like, “You’re Canadian, I’m Canadian.  Let’s beat the shit of each other!”  It makes no sense at all.

I’m sorry to all you NHL fans out there, but what is so entertaining about a bunch of white guys chasing each other around with sticks?  The sport itself is just stupid.

I guess that’s not the NHL’s fault though.

Are you serious? The people who write stuff like this, yourself included, also
find baseball, televised poker, and watching paint dry to be the most exciting
things on Earth. 82 game regular season is too long? 16 victories for the most
prestigious trophy in sports too much? The thing weighs 35 lbs. Hockey is a
grind and it takes way more effort in one game than it takes to play a whole
season of baseball. Anybody can stand in the sun and swing a piece of wood.
Try ice skating without grasping the boards for dear life. Then try it wearing
15 lbs of pads when 5 other people are all trying to hit you . Finally, go read
the Wikipedia entry for "ice hockey", then try writing another informed
article about hockey being lame like this one.

Honestly that was just pathetic, maybe you should try and understand the game
before you write an article bashing it. You should take the time and realize
the amount of skill these guys have and toughness it takes to play 82 games a
year, plus playoffs. Hockey players run show everywhere they go, keep dreaming
you could be one.

haha people have thier opinions on everything, so ill respect you on yours with
hockey. But if it is so stupid, why does it sell out for opening night? Might i
add...thats in August, like you said. Ever been to a red wings game, or a game
in general? detroit man, hockey town.

playoff hockey is what its all about
man. thats the best hockey ever.

answer this, would you rather go to a hockey
game..or go watch the lions?

and "a bunch of white guys chasing each
other" ehh...you forgot to count the 4 or 5 african americans in the league.
just for the record.
come on, dave

You've apparently never watched the NHL playoffs, because they are way better
than the playoffs of any other pro sport. The NHL playoffs are the fastest,
hardest-hitting sport of all sports. Oh, and the top 8 teams from each
conference(15 in each) make the playoffs, not every team.
