There’s something about the crisp fall air and the changing leaves that marks the ending of one chapter and the beginning of another.
The fleeting summer takes with it all those hours spent in the sun, those waterlogged days at the pool, the lemonade, the Bar-B-Q’s and the endless water fights, and leaves in its wake books, sweaters, tailgates, and the pilgrimage back to campus.Despite the mourning of summer, fall brings with it a certain excitement. The onset of back to school blues is a bittersweet feeling. I mean sure I’ll miss those lazy days in the sun, but there’s something so refreshing about being up at seven in the morning to hit those chem books. Sign me up! Yet despite the obvious set-backs of leaving summer for school there is an undeniable excitement that keeps students flocking back to class each autumn without being completely depressed; at least for a few months. This year the transition has been particularly intense. The closing ceremony of this year’s Olympic games will keep the world waiting another four years to see a summer with this much global excitement, and the election in November will bring about a new leader of the free world. What is perhaps the most ground breaking election this country has ever seen, gives the citizens a certain excitement in their government and a renewed faith in the American political system; at least for a few months. |
