After electing Obama as our next president, it’s nice to know what his agenda is for when he takes the office. During a question and answer session in front of Planned Parenthood, he said that the first thing he would do as president would be to sign into law the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA). So what is FOCA?

FOCA is a bill that is currently being worked on in the house. It would outlaw all state and federal restrictions on abortion. This means ending the ban on partial birth abortion as well as taking all other restrictions away that include parent notification and waiting periods. This is a slap in the face to the constitution. The constitution is very firm in power being vested in the states and allowing local governments to rule their people instead of a large centralized government. This takes power directly out of states and puts it into the hands of an ever growing federal government. According to Obama, this will end debate over abortion so that we can start working together on more important issues. As much as I like unity and working together, being able to voice your opinion and debate something is much more important.

That’s not the worst of it though. FOCA also would eliminate the right for religious hospitals to opt out of performing abortions. In essence, any hospital would have to perform the procedure whether they wanted to or not. Not scared yet? This bill would possibly allow for federal funding for abortions. That’s your tax payer money at work: killing infants. Whether you agree with abortion or not, you shouldn’t agree with shoving it down everyone’s throat.

However, that’s not to say that I don’t understand where people who support FOCA are coming from. They view abortion as a right (even though it’s not in the constitution) and want to fight to make sure everyone’s rights are protected. As such, people like Obama want to make this abortion right accessible to everyone and insure that they don’t have to go through any trouble.

What these people need to realize is that abortion is not in the constitution, so it’s not a right. If you want it to be a right and put forth this type of legislation, then have some guts and propose an amendment. But to shove this type of large government/ almost fascist style of forcing people to abide by laws created by a centralized source is wrong.

That is just untrue. If you want to see him personally say that the first thing
he will do is pass the Freedom of Choice Act, watch this
