Right after the primaries when my candidate lost, I became an undecided voter. The choice between John McCain and Barack Obama seemed like a difficult one. After extensively studying both candidates’ stances on the issues and investigating their records, I decided to cast my support for John McCain. However, as the economic crisis hit, I learned that my support was misguided.

Watching John McCain speak about the economy is painful. He seemingly changes his mind every day and is open to everything from free market ideas to socialism. When the stocks started tumbling, John McCain’s first impulse was to go for a government bailout. Instead of realizing that we really don’t have any money to bail anyone out, he full-heartedly supported a measure to give $700 billion in bailouts to large financial corporations that were largely mishandled. These financial institutions gave out loans to people who they knew couldn’t afford them. If this is what a “conservative” supports, I don’t know what our nation is coming to. On top of that, the bill that John McCain voted for had over one hundred billion dollars in pork spending—this coming from a guy who said that he would veto any bill that came across his desk and make the people who asked for the pork spending famous. Well, John, I think it’s time to make you famous. The only reason why you and others put the pork spending into the bill was to lure house democrats and republicans to support it. That’s not the end of McCain’s bad economic ideas though. In a recent debate he released a plan to buy up all the mortgages. Are you serious? This coming from a man that says he is going to cut government spending. John, I don’t care how many pork projects you say you’ll veto. It won’t even come close to the amount you’d spend on those mortgages. Watching the candidates debate the economy, I don’t see a conservative on stage.

That being said, I wouldn’t be caught dead voting for Barack Obama. The man is a socialist. He wants massive redistribution of wealth and expansion of government. He is a dirty politician getting support from corrupt groups like ACORN, whose employees he trained.

Although John McCain may be better than Barack Obama, he is not worthy of my support. I personally would like to start a petition to get a “none of the above” option on the ballot. It sure would be better than having to hold my breath and vote for John McCain.
