Psychedelia lives! In an euphoric psychedelic explosion of sounds, MGMT breaks the modern music barrier in array of original songs and beats.
Who is MGMT? MGMT, formerly known as The Management, are a trippy duo of Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser of Brooklyn, New York. Under their new name, they released their tour de force album Oracular Spectacular. Oracular Spectacular is an album that should be accompanied by a laser show and a dance floor. The adrenaline filled electronica pulses throughout the album. MGMT is great to dance to while you’re at a party, or just walking around campus. What make MGMT so addictive, though, are their beautiful hooks and the accessibility of the music. It isn’t straight techno, it isn’t straight pop, and it defiantly isn’t rock. It is a mixture of everything. In the music society that doesn’t favor niche markets, MGMT finds a niche, it just happens to be three or four at the same time. What makes MGMT so unique to each genre though, is it has managed to revive the Psychedelic genre, while adding dancing, and incorporating thoughtful and meaningful lyrics. Those lyrics speak to a younger generation that wants to live the way MGMT sings, even though they may not. Even more exciting is the fact that MGMT has only released one (two if you include the album they released under The Management) and they have a lot more music to make. Lately, MGMT has been getting critical acclaim (Rolling Stone named MGMT one of their “Top Ten Artists to Watch” back in November 2007 and they grace the cover of the latest Spin Magazine) and admiration from peers (Of Montreal’s lead man, Kevin Barnes, has teamed up with VanWyngarden for a side project band Blikk Fang). So isn’t MGMT what you should be listening to too?MGMT’s Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/mgmt
