In the simplest terms, Pindrosity’s “Musical Apocalypse” is a vacation in music form. It’s carefree, laid back riffs and lyrics put your mind on a Caribbean beach no matter where you actually are in the world.

The sound of the album is a mix between ska, pop, funk, and anything off Brushfire Records. The positive feel of the music is downright overwhelming.

Ever since the grunge era of music, guitar solos have drifted into the shadows. Guitarist Jimmy Killeen brings back the guitar solo, but not in the self indulgent way of the 80s. Each solo has it’s place in Pindrosity’s songs, but they are not overwhelming. Lead singer Dane Woolridge’s lyrics should be sung in front of thousands with every one mouthing the words, waving their lighters, and kicking back from the lawn seats. Woolridge showcases his talent best on “Hey Honey.” Pindy Clemens’ bass on “Workin’ For the Man” is so funkadelic that it rivals Flea of the Chili Peppers.

From the heart breaking tribute to a lost friend in “Every Waking Day” to the sing-a-long ballad of “ATF” to the summer love song of “Hey Honey,” Pindrosity shows versatility in each of their songs. I love how Pindrosity incorporates different instruments in a variety of ways across the album. From bongos, to saxophones, to a different distortion, each song is layered with different sounds. The album climaxes on my favorite song, “ATF” Everything comes together on this song, great guitar solo, sing-a-long lyrics, and some of the best drum work from John Killeen that I have heard in a long time.

“Musical Apocalypse” is not a perfect album, but it is a great album. I would like see Pindrosity take some songs off the typical song structure path of verse-chorus-verse-chorus and I wish more of the songs had a deeper meaning. Other than that, it is hard to complain with this solid album from an up-and-coming band. Whether you are chillin’ on the beach, studying, or freezing your ass off in the Midwest, “Musical Apocalypse” is the perfect companion and a great addition to anyone’s iTunes library.
